Default Hiddink Hints At Chelsea Job Offer

Cultured Russia manager Guus Hiddink claims that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich approached him regarding the managerial position vacated by Jose Mourinho.

It’s almost a week since Jose Mourinho shocked the footballing world by parting ways with Chelsea after three successful years in charge of the club.
Almost immediately after the Portuguese left Stamford Bridge the then director of football, Avram Grant, was installed as the new manager. Cynics among the media rightly questioned how long the Israeli had been appointed for, and if indeed he was a stop-gap, who would be the long term solution.
In the past week several high profile managers have been speculated over, notably Dutch national boss Marco van Basten, however the link was quickly severed by a statement of denial from The Blues heircahy.
If ever there is a major job going in Europe, the well travelled Russia manager Guus Hiddink is naturally linked to the role. The Chelsea position is no different and even though Avram Grant appears to be settled in the role, Hiddink has fuelled speculation by suggesting he was approached by owner Roman Abramovich.
As manager of the Russian national team Hiddink will undoubtedly have contact with the Chelsea supreme, by nature of a shared vested interest, but speaking to the Daily Express the former Real Madrid boss claimed that he was contacted regarding the job at Stamford Bridge.

“Abramovich asked me 'What do you want?’” claimed Hiddink. “I told him that right now I want to do nothing else except concentrate on Russia.
“I want to see this through now and then see what happens.”

However the Dutchman could soon seek a new challenge if his bid to propel Russia into the European Championship finals fails. There will be closure on this topic in November, which could, if circumstances prevail, be when Hiddink takes charge of Chelsea.

Even if his attempts with Russia fail, Abramovich could struggle to tempt Hiddink away from Moscow.

The 60-year-old continued: "We like living in Moscow and they seem to like us.

“We have started a project here with this team and they want us to stay for another two years after the European Championships.”
