IMPORTANT MEETING BETWEEN FRANGIEH AND GEMAYEL

An important meeting which lasted three hours took place at the NDU in Zouk Mosbeh between El Marada leader Sleiman Frangieh and the Kataeb party president Sheikh Amin Gemayel in the presence of El Marada delegate Chadi Saad and al-Kataeb official Salim al-Sayegh. Frangieh and Gemayel issued a statement that called for:
1-The respect of the stature of the presidency as it is the key and leading Christian post in Lebanon.
2-The election of a president who enjoys wide supporter base, capable and responsible, committed to the freedom and sovereignty of Lebanon and the protection of its vital characteristics and believes in the doctrine of the Maronite Church.
3-A fair electoral law that can assure the Christians and the Lebanese of the correct representation.
4-The return of displaced Lebanese to their homes and the introduction of balanced development plan and non-centralised administration.
5-The assembly of Christian leaders on the bases of a strategy that prevents disputes and reserves the right of having diverse views.
6-The backing of the initiatives of Bkirki and Speaker Nabih Berri in order to reach consensus.
Frangieh stressed the importance of Christian unity built on common grounds and hoped for moves to restore the confidence of youth in Lebanon and limit their migration. Gemayel spoke of the stances of the late president Sleiman Frangieh and his close personal relation with martyr Tony Frangieh and his wife Vera.
