Of course everything will run better with 2gb on high performing apps.
U'll get a slight better performance, not justifying the need to upgrade, i tried vista on the two configurations, not so much diff. But its also a good idea to upgrade now since memory prices are dirt cheap especially ddr2. U can find 1gb ddr2 533mhz for 28$!!!!

first, i'll tell you why u need 2gb, because MSN, Firefox, Kaspersky, IDM and daemon tools beside the system services where consuming 50% of my memory, ow that's 1GB
second, i tried once to set my laptop to power saving mode, and i couldn't imagine it any slower.

I've had no such problem when using vista with 1gb.
It ran normaly with no hick ups, even though i had a firewall up and an anti virus program. Tested it while encoding and rendering video still it ran smoothly on my system, maybe its because of the geforce 6600.
Vista has double memory footprint so it basicly starts with 512mb ram to work with as opposed to 256 with xp, 512mb is quite a large amount for basic programs as the such u discribed above, i wouldnt think it would need to consume more if these programs were solely used.

Vista will work Zeus.
But if it consume a gigz of memory. it is better to give it this gig.

vista manages the memory differently, it takes as much as it has available (of course not all the memory, but a percentage of it)
but i think vista deserves 2gb to run free, and sure no one is gonna get vista to work on built in apps and play minesweeper, there are other things too.

it is not a vista thing. any operating system works like that.

This is wrong about vista...
vista takes an average of 600 mb from memory,it depends from the version but the difference is not a big deal...
the thing is that we can optimize vista to work much more faster with less memory and cpu usage, it's all about disabling services that we don't want (there r many unnecessary services in vista)...i'll talk about that later.
processes + services = memory usage
we don't have to ignore the cpu clock speed and the 'front side bus' speed that can make a clear difference in performance...
vista can even work with g-force fx 5200 128mb (but not with all his graphic features like AERO..)
