Hey guys, I brought you a new subject...
Is it possible to transform a normal flash memory to a U3 one? The answer is: "I don't think so!" However, you can make your flash memory act just like a U3 one! So, you won't need to open the flash memory drive on foreign PCs and get infected by viruses each time you want to use some programs on it. All you have to do is to follow the steps listed below: 1-Create a file named "autorun.inf" on the flash memory using notepad; 2-Open the file and type the following: [autorun] Shell\dos\Command=cmd.exe shell\dos=Let's Work In Dos Mode! Shell\pdf\Command=ENTERT~1\Foxit_Reader.exe shell\pdf=Read PDF Files... Shell\edit\Command=ENTERT~1\edit\UltraEdit-32\uedit32.exe shell\edit=Edit Files... 3-Save the file; 4-Unplug the flash memory then plug it again in order for changes to take effect!; 5-Enter "my computer" and check the flash memory by doing a right click on its drive. You will see three new fields in the menu: ----------------------- Let's Work In Dos Mode! ----------------------- Read PDF Files... ----------------------- Edit Files... ----------------------- Open ----------------------- Explore ----------------------- ... ----------------------- .. ----------------------- Of course if you click on one of the first three fields nothing will work and you will get a message saying that the file was not found or something similar to this (depending on the OS)... This is because either the path of the file is not correct or the file itself doesn't exist! These autorun configurations are on my flash memory and not on yours... You can manage your flash drive autorun.inf like you want and add as many fields as you want, but don't forget to let the computer know where are your files So the general form of the script will be: [autorun] Shell\WHATEVER1\Command=THE PATH OF THE FILE INCLUDING ITS NAME AND EXTENSION (EXE,COM,BAT...) shell\WHATEVER1=THE STRING YOU WANT TO PUT IN THE FIELD OF THIS FILE Shell\WHATEVER2\Command=THE PATH OF THE FILE INCLUDING ITS NAME AND EXTENSION (EXE,COM,BAT...) shell\WHATEVER2=THE STRING YOU WANT TO PUT IN THE FIELD OF THIS FILE You can put an icon for you flash memory by adding this line to the autorun file: ICON=.\safety\e5.ico This is an icon named "e5" in the folder named "safety", in order for things to work the icon should be 48x48 in dimension and 32 bit in color. Important remark: ----------------- If you want to include a file in autorun.inf and the file location is a folder named "ENTER THE MATRIX", then the following code won't work: [autorun] Shell\WHATEVER1\Command=ENTER THE MATRIX\file shell\WHATEVER1=THE STRING YOU WANT TO PUT IN THE FIELD OF THE FILE Spaces and long names are not supported, we should write ENTERT~1 instead. But how do we know? We should open CMD.EXE and go to the directory that contains our folder and type "dir /x" so the command prompt shows us all the folders in the path with their supported names... That's all guys, I hope you enjoyed this tutorial... |

Man you are right, but i think you didn't notice what i said before.
I said that we can't transform a normal flash memory to a U3 one, in this tutorial we are just making the flash memory act like a U3 flash memory, it means we are taking the feature that makes us run programs without opening the flash memory drive... the major advantage of a U3 flash memory on the other is that it has an embeded software which make its autorun configuration protected... |

And this how some viruses today work when infecting a computer: Code:
[autorun] Shell\open\Command=virus.exe Shell\Explore\Command=virus.exe Shell\Find\Command=virus.exe It results that you can't access the drive by explore, open or find(search),each time you click on one of these, the virus will be run again and you are unable to access the drive by direct ways... I want to point something, the icon I talked about in the first post is important, it let us know if the flash memory is infected by a virus or no. When the icon disappear,we conclude that a virus has infected the flash memory and changed the autorun.inf file configuration. Last edited by Google; 02-19-2008 at 04:21 PM. Reason: more info |

Are you sure that this virus infected your U3 without even opening it?! can you give the name of this virus so i can study it and test it? In A Week!!!, I understand that Kaspersky accidently found it when it was scaning the pc after a week, but i don't understand that it took Kaspersky a week to disinfect it I always keep the anti-virus off on my pc, I don't use it... I installed recently Kaspersky 8.0 Beta (8.0.0.219) but it has many bugs and problems so i uninstalled it, i have no anti-virus right now on my pc |
