Default XP vs Vista

XP vs Vista
By Alexandre Carst
April 26th 2008

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer presented Windows XP fans with some excellent news when he announced that the company may extend XP’s lifespan. Obviously enough, in order for this to happen, user feedback must come down hard on Vista, as such a decision can only be taken if the target demographic surpasses certain numbers.

"XP will hit an end-of-life. We have announced one. If customer feedback varies, we can always wake up smarter," Steve Ballmer, Microsoft CEO, said according to Reuters.

Although the selling of XP is scheduled to cease on June 30, several PC makers (including Dell) have expressed their intention to continue to offer the operating system. Microsoft does however intend to keep on selling Windows XP for a limited category of PCs, "ultralow-cost PCs," which are computers with slower processors, smaller screens and all in all of lower performance.
At the beginning of the month, during a speech held at the Inter-American Development Bank in Miami, Bill Gates hinted about the follow-up to Vista, Windows 7, which could be launched as early as next year. But for the time being, it is still unclear if Gates meant a beta or a final version.

In its six years of existence, Windows XP has managed to reach an incredible range of users; even though some are turning towards Vista or other companies’ competing operating systems, XP is still going strong and therefore, continuous efforts have been put into its updating and improvement.

XP SP3 is not released yet, but this will come soon.
the wierd thing is that i read 2 days ago that ballmer was tending to shorten the life of XP if consumers are mostly choosing vista.
anyway i don't care, because in lebanon, we don't buy licenses and my vista license will hold few years

Wrong! XP SP3 has been released few months ago if not more, i have it installed on my computer at work, in fact it's more like security fixes, nothing graphical to be mentioned.

The one you installed i think was a beta version aw RC version (release candidate), but the official one isn't released yet ...
I don't know where i read it today, but SP3 will be officialy released at the middle of this year ... however Kingroudy said in a week ... so still waiting although the overview i read about it isn't that enthusiastic ... as u mentioned mostly security updates ...

Thank You ...
