there is an article on milw0rm.com that teaches a technique similar to what Hizbullah said. it was posted in 2008 though.

Well, I don't use programs other than a hex editor when filtering a file...
It might take more time than the one HizbullaH mentioned but it is more accurate and succeed 100% (At least with me It is like doing an approximation for the intersection of a polynomial with the x-axis ^_^ We keep truncating the file with the hex editor, and each time we scan the truncated file with the anti virus... we keep trying this method until we find the offset that we want to delete... |

^^ this is why i asked for dsplit.exe , it truncates automatically, not manually, and this will save you time.
