no it doesn't, u dont have to fear the afterlife if it exists, those who dont believe in after life have something called conscience too. take a look at those believers in our country, they rule it... for e.g. they kill,steal, etc... are they afraid??? its not fear, they dont have a conscience. that's all...

what forbids atheists from being killers, criminals, robbers, etc...??? since they already dont believe in the existence of God... very simple, CONSCIENCE... i rather go to my bed and sleep tight then go to my bed and have nightmares cuz i robbed someone or threatened someone...

It's not just that...You need to believe in an afterlife AND have a conscience. It doesn't work if you lie, cheat, steal and murder, and still believe in an afterlife because that would be just silly and dimwitted.

Conscience is key.

I disagree, the conscience isn't everything, some people actually dont kill, steal becoz simply they fear God and believe in the afterlife as Kain mentioned el ossa bada imen AND damir

erm... some wise ass guy said that I believe it was a saint

anyway I don't care if there is an afterlife, it won't change the way I live, I will not start to follow a religion even if I got definite proof of an afterlife, because this goes against what I believe in
and I believe in freedom. freedom that no religion is gonna tell me what to eat, what to wear, how to worship, when to lie and when to have sex, who to kill, who to steal, how to look at members from the opposite sex, how to flirt, what to do with my parents, how to raise my child... (I have class now so I'll continue this list later)

bottom line is, the way I see it, religion=slavery

anyway I really belive it is more honorable to burn in hell and be free then to go to heaven because you were worshiping something you could not see.
religion bribes you with the thought of eternal life so you would sell yourself willingly to it like a slave.
I ask you, if this day God makes an appearence and tells the world that he exists, but he will no longer accept anymore souls in heaven, how many people would still worship God for being God the creator?

Kain's answer to me was " it wouldn't happen" it seems the lord that is capable of anything is not capable of that
but really, take that into consideration and just check wether you worship because you are bribed or because you are convinced truly of what you are doing
