Totti fires his way into Serie A top ten

Francesco Totti's two goals in AS Roma's 3-2 victory against US Lecce on Sunday saw him overtake another man synonymous with the Giallorossi, Amedeo Amadei, and become the tenth highest scorer in Serie A history.
Penalty winner
Totti broke the deadlock after three minutes at the Stadio Olimpico and scored the winner from the penalty spot just before the hour mark as Roma moved within five points of fourth-placed Genoa CFC and the prospect of UEFA Champions League football next term. Those efforts took the 32-year-old's league tally to ten this season and 175 overall, moving him above Amadei, the man best known for helping Roma capture their first Scudetto in 1941/42.
Piola benchmark
Of the nine players with more strikes to their name, only former Juventus marksman and president Giampiero Boniperti – ninth with 178 goals – fired all his efforts for one club in similar fashion to Totti. "I plan to reach Boniperti before the end of the season," promised the Roma talisman after the game against Lecce. Reaching the top of the list will take a while longer, however, with Silvio Piola holding the record courtesy of his 274 goals.
Fiorentina mission
"With Totti in form, everything is much easier for us," said midfielder Matteo Brighi, Roma's other goalscorer against Lecce. "He has had a difficult season with injuries but now he is fit and giving us great help." Defeated on penalties by Arsenal FC in the UEFA Champions League first knockout round, Roma now lie sixth in Serie A, three points behind ACF Fiorentina, their next opponents. "We should only look at how many points we have after the last game of the season," Totti added. "We want to finish fourth but we have to think one game at a time right now."
