Manchester United will again be without Rio Ferdinand for Saturday's potential title-clinching meeting with Arsenal.
The defender missed the midweek 2-1 victory over Wigan Athletic with a calf strain and United boss Sir Alex Ferguson will not rush him back ahead of the Champions League Final meeting with Barcelona on May 27. The Red Devils need to just one point from their clash with the Gunners to be crowned champions. "Rio is still struggling with a calf strain," revealed Ferguson. "These niggles usually take a week to 10 days to clear up. Hopefully he'll be fit for Hull (next weekend) and the Champions League Final. Ferdinand has picked up a series of niggling injuries this season and has started just 24 of United's 36 Premier League games this season. "He's not training, he's having treatment. He's doing gym work and work on the bikes," added Ferguson. "He's our only concern for tomorrow, but I'll freshen up from Wednesday - it was a gruelling game and a heavy pitch." |

Manchester United FC have equalled Liverpool FC's record of 18 English titles as they claimed the Premier League championship for the third year in a row with a 0-0 draw at home to Arsenal FC.
Title secure While not as one-sided as their UEFA Champions League semi-final success against the Gunners, United held out comfortably to gain the point they needed to move seven points clear of Liverpool, who have only two games left including Sunday's trip to West Bromwich Albion FC. Having already won the FIFA Club World Cup and English League Cup in addition to their eleventh Premier League crown under Sir Alex Ferguson, United will attempt to become the first team to retain the UEFA Champions League title against FC Barcelona in Rome on 27 May. United, Chelsea FC and Liverpool already know they will be in the 2009/10 group stage while Arsenal will enter the qualifying play-off round. A full programme of Premier League fixtures continues on Saturday and Sunday |
