Default Analyse this! :p

I was conducting a dictionary attack test from a Firefox add-on I created.
I used a 18Mb sized dictionary, and this is what I got in the performance tab of Windows task manager during the attack process:



Analyze this!

first of all, you application doesn't take advantage of the two cores.
second, the physical memory is interesting.. my theory would go like this:
the program loads a segment of the dictionary (and the required "stuff") to attack the password, then, drops it and load another segment ....

true?

It's not my application who's not taking advantage of the two cores. It's Firefox. Good point here. I will test Firefox and contact their staff to see if this is a special case or that Firefox does not hug the whole power of the 2 cores.

As for the memory part. It's quite interesting. I'll leave my comment about it later.
