Question Privatization With or Agaisnt ?!

Privatization, as defined on Wikipedia, is the process of transferring ownership of a business, or public service from the public sector (government) to the private sector (business).

There are several types of privatization, and obviously this topic is controversial for many. Proponents of privatization believe that private market factors can more efficiently deliver services than government due to free market competition. In general, it is argued that over time this will lead to lower prices, improved quality, more choices, less corruption, less red tape, and quicker delivery. Conversely, opponents of privatization argue that a government which runs nationalized enterprises poorly will lose public support and votes, while a government which runs those enterprises well will gain public support and votes. Thus, democratic governments do have an incentive to maximize efficiency in nationalized companies, due to the pressure of future elections.

FPM, in its 2005 electoral program, declared its favor for developing and implementing a privatization program.

FPM Electoral Program 2005

Quote:
Adopt initial plan for rectifying defects in privatization program institutions. Candidates for privatization are :
  • MEA
  • EDL
  • Casino du Liban
  • PTT
In its 2009 electoral program, FPM states its favor for privatization of the telecommunication sector, while revising or amending the concept of privatization.

FPM Electoral rogram 2009
Quote:

Liban Telecom
Where do you stand in front of this?
Are you completely against?
completely in favor?
or in between?

Is Privatization s necessity to move our country to the next level of building the state?

Which sector do u think should be Privatized? which doesnt?

Generally speaking, every cell in my body is against privatization. In Lebanon, I would accept short term contracts which privatizes operation and management while keeping ownership of resources with the public sector. Mtc and alfa function according to a similar concept but under bad contracts(thanks to the fat genius we had for a prime minister at the time)

I think we're all okay that public services are all rotten and none works as it should be. This is because either the government is controlling it such as electricity or had contracts with companies such as ALFA & MTC which killed anything called concurrence & quality since people don't have much options.

Once concurrence is set, the service level will go up and the prices will decrease. That will certainly help our economy to stabilize and allow other sectors to function properly and eventually drag more money, since these sectors are so basic and everyone of us is suffering of the malfunctioning and poor quality we're having for crazy prices.

Result: With
Privatization of course =)

Privatization a big word,

Well i voted Favorable With Conditions ,

No one can be against or with Privatization totally,
Why?!

Practice proved that both way will lead to failure, the best thing is to merge the Privatization and the public sector together.

In Some Sectors like telecommunication privatizing the sector is a necessity, worldwide it has been proven that the private sector provide better QoS and prices.

When it comes to electricity, Zahle is a good example, a good example is being held over there.
The invoicing and services has been privatized along with keeping the power production in the control of the government.

This experience should be generalized to all Lebanese regions,
This will stop the illegal use of the network, and provide a good income.

Some Sectors should be strictly public like the Security and Transportation,
The mess currently in the transportation is due to the unorganized privatization of this sector.
keeping this sector public will lead to stable prices, and if future plans available railways can be constructed, thus decreasing the transportation cost when it comes to improving the industry.

Media, uffff, this sector, needs not only to be privatized it need to be independent from the government, the political interference has affected this sector in a very bad way.

Privatization is a necessity in some sectors, in others is a total failure.

In other words, every sectors where the private companies has the technology and the Specialization privatization is required strongly, without forgetting law and rules to avoid monopoly and cartels like it is happening in the telecom(Private ISP not GSM) sector currently.
