As Marcello Lippi announced his provisional 29-man squad for this summer’s showpiece event in South Africa, there were a few shocks in store with regards to some notable absentees.

Despite their electric form in recent weeks, there was no place for Palermo’s Fabrizio Miccoli or Sampdoria’s Antonio Cassano, according to SkySport. Inter’s troubled star Mario Balotelli has unsurprisingly missed the grade once again following his turbulent situation over the past fortnight.

From Monday to Wednesday, these players will train together in "Borgesiana", a Sports Centre in Rome, under Marcello Lippi.

In view of the Coppa Italia final between Roma and Inter on Wednesday night, the Azzurri tactician has opted not to call up any personnel from either side due to club commitments.

Goalkeepers: Buffon, Marchetti, De Sanctis, Sirigu

Defenders: Bocchetti, Bonucci, F. Cannavaro, Cassani, Chiellini, Criscito, Grosso, Legrottaglie, Maggio, Zambrotta

Midfielders: Camoranesi, Candreva, Cossu, Gattuso, Marchisio, Montolivo, Pepe, Palombo, Pirlo

Forwards: Borriello, Di Natale, Gilardino, Pazzini, Iaquinta, Quagliarella

no Balotelli, Cassano Or Miccoli...such a waste tbh di3anon ma yel3abo i REALLY wanted to see Balotelli playing, bas due to his issues with the Italian fans (them hating him bcz of his half Ghanaian origin) w bcz they tried to kill him (fakkoulo 3az2at el dwelib taba3 siyarto ) he's not gonna play this year, maybe Ghana will take him..

Yes he can, as long as u have the ID of whatever country, u can play for that latter. And yes they are a (not BIG) fail, enno they do have some "experienced/used to be good when young" players, bas this time they dnt that good of a squad..

Well tell that to Eurosport's analyzer who said Balotelli will probably play with Ghana this year and gain respect and experience to allow him to play with Italy in the 2014 World Cup
