Default ignorance is a bliss?

which would you prefer, being told a good lie or knowing an ugly truth?(I think there has been a similar thread before but I am opening another anyway) I would like to elaborate on this issue.

if something is bad, or wrong has happened, that concerns you. at the same time you might live the rest of your life and die and not know about it if you are not told. would you still want to be told?
it is kind of abstract I know, let me give an example off the top of my head

lets say you bought your girlfriend an expensive gift, it was very thoughtful, it took a lot of energy from you(for some reason), but she did not like it and she was short on money and she sold it

knowing that you would be hurt if you knew, she never told you. does that make it ok? would you have rather known this truth which would not have benefited you in any way other than to cause you pain?

other random examples(if you think this is silly) you had a cancer tumor that needs to be removed and your wife told you it was nothing and doctors were just exaggerating and performing the operation to be safe, and lucky you the operation was successful and you were healed. would you have rathered know then or is it better for you to go through the whole thing without any fear or sentiment? the outcome does not change, you still are going through the same process, but the fact that you are unaware makes it easier for you

your son failed a course at the uni, and it is going to cost you extra money because he will repeat it, he could lie to you and say he is not repeating anything and you wouldn't know, or he could have told you the truth, you would have been sad, but you would have still paid for the course(nothign changed by knowing the truth except that you had the extra bad feeling)

personally, I used to think that it is always good to be down to earth and to have a firm knowledge of what is going on around you. recently I have changed my mind, I think being happy in life is the most important thing, I go with the being lied to option. what is your opinion?

Very good topic.

In my opinion, a reasonable man would understand anything, and wouldn't want anyone to hide anything that would affect his life from him.

You see, everything I do in life, all the relationships I build with people, are based on honesty, I know that lots of it would hurt people sometimes, but when you tend to be honest with them, they would learn to feel comfortable around you, and eventually trust you.

but basically, you did not lie for your protection, you lied for their protection. and as I said they will never know. why cause unnecessary pain? what is the ultimate purpose? so you lived a long sad life and then died, but you knew everything what did you gain? on the other hand, you lived a long happy life and you skipped a lot of things. this is what I personally am looking at, results.

Hiding the truth from someone to live a happy live is a selfish act.

On the other hand, telling them everything might hurt everyone for a bit, but it should lead to a better life, like for example, changing one's self for the better.

Some ignorance is bliss, as long as the truth isn't important.

A friend of mine was involved in a relationship where all her friends could see that her bf was cheating on her; yet she refused to believe it. Inside she knew what he was doin, though she was happy living the illusion. Seein' this made me wonder: How often do we pretend to be ignorant to avoid facing up to the consequences that go with reality?

Personally, ignorance is not bliss at all, it's simply a cover up, just to extend the happiness u r feelin. But the longer it goes on, the harder it will hit u when time does come to face reality. All dreams end, and it's far nicer to wake up naturally from a dream than to be suddenly woken... Basically long story short, to earn true happiness, we need to be open to new things and not close our minds n hold to ignorance. We need to step outside our comfort zones as this is the only way we can open our minds n give ourselves opportunities to find real, truthful and satisfying bliss.

It looks nice and beautiful when you live the lie, but the day you get out of it you realize how shitty it was. Cause the feeling of disappointment, hate and regret you'll have will remove all the good moments you lived simply because they were all based on a big fat lie and everything turns upside down such as:

- All bad "negative" thoughts you were trying to get rid of and blaming yourself for, turn out to be real.

- All good times you had were actually fake and you were naive enough to believe that fake truth, take it for granted and use it as a main element in your life. When that element turns out to be fake, everything based on it will simply collapse.

Bottom line, better living the cruel reality cause you will eventually reach a good phase rather than living on a cloud that will eventually disappear and send you straight to hell.

Ignorance is a bliss 100% .

People who never heard the messages of any gods have this bliss cos their fate is in the hands of gods and they will probably go to heaven.

But People who heard the messages but rejected them are doomed in to eternal hell. So i wish i was a poor african punk waking naked in the wilderness with No idea about anything . Ugh ugh ugha.

I'd rather go to hell a million times in such a case, then to willingly choose to be an ignorant blind obedient slave(and I did not just say that, I had given it a really long thought) even if God exists. There is a great difference between what is right and good and true, and what religion says is right and good and true. being a slave can never be true regardless of who the master is, respect is earned not given. what is the difference between such religions and terrorist threats?

I have discovered after thinking of the whole ignorance topic that, there is a joy in learning, and learning not just in terms of science, when you meet someone for the first time(a new classmate or roommate and especially a new girl ) there is a certain pleasure in discovering that person, what they like, their habits, their views on things. but also like all knowledge, once you know these things, and the mystery is gone, the person or object you were trying to learn about becomes so uninteresting. and the more you know in this world, the more stuff you understand, the more logical you become, the more uninteresting the world seems. the world does not change, and facts do not change, but the way we see things change

so the bliss is the process of learning neither the ignorance nor the knowledge
