Ivory Coast star Didier Drogba has admitted he is out of the World Cup after fracturing his right elbow in a friendly against Japan today, according to L'Equipe.

The Chelsea striker received a knock from defender Tulio Tanaka's knee with the score at 1-0 after he had struck a deflected free kick. He was swiftly replaced by CSKA Moscow centre forward Seydou Doumbia on the 16 minute mark and left the pitch in visible pain clutching his arm.

Drogba is now set to under-go a scan on the injury, but he is reported to have already stated he is out of the tournament.

Speaking to reporters after the match, manager Sven Goran Eriksson expressed his worry about the situation.

He said: "It is an elbow injury but we don't know how bad it is. We are going straight to the hospital and we should get an answer before we leave.

"If it is serious, it is very worrying. He's our captain, one of the best strikers in the world.

"Yes I am worried, of course I am [injury could rule Drogba out of World Cup]."

not really that awful for Ivory Coast, I mean Gervinho and Kalou are good strikers.( Gervinho has had a great season and Kalou proved that no matter how strong the opponent is he can cause problems ( like in Inter match he was the best player for Chelsea) Also Doumbia is a really hot prospect can score goals so easily and should be called. He has the record of most goals scored in one league this year I think, and he just moved to Europe.

Kalou--Doumbia--Gervinho is actually very scary too.
