World Cup 2010: Didier Drogba Trains With Cote D'Ivoire Ahead Of Portugal Encounter

Chelsea man looks set to start.

Ivory Coast captain Didier Drogba looks as if he is now set to start for the Elephants in their World Cup opener against Portugal tomorrow.

The Chelsea striker, who suffered a broken bone in his forearm against Japan in a World Cup warm-up match, was initially reported to be set to miss the entire tournament.

However, having undergone a successful surgery, the Chelsea striker trained with the first-team today and coach Sven Goran Eriksson has made an official request to FIFA asking for their permission that Drogba be allowed to play with a special cast on his arm.

“There was a FIFA meeting this afternoon," Eriksson told a press conference today.

"The people have not come back yet. I will see them now, and we will find out if the referee allowed the cast."

"We are rather confident that he can play a part in this tournament," Eriksson continued. "Tomorrow is eight days since the breakage, a short time, and we think he will play in the tournament. We did not call up anyone else, so that says everything. We, I, hope that he will play tomorrow.”
