Default 3G Speed.

So I rooted my Android phone a couple of days ago so I can use a feature called wireless tethering which is available only to root users, and it allows Clients (your laptop for example) connect via wifi (ad-hoc mode) or bluetooth and get access to the internet using the 3G, 2G mobile connection or (in case you are using bluetooth) the wifi connection which is established by the handset. I want to share with you the 3G speed I got, I was really impressed!
Remember that was my phone acting as an ad hoc, and my computer as a client.
I know long time ago Alfa for 10,000 LL you can get internet on your phone, so what is the speed of the internet on your phone?

you rooted your device for that? what's your phone/android version?
i can tether using my HTC Desire running Froyo without rooting.
in lebanon, the WAP thingy doesn't work on the HTC desire and presumably other android phones, GPRS does, but i don't think you can get more than 100kbps. Edge, which can reach 560kbps in theory is restricted to the blackberry service so we can't try it.

btw, if you are happy with this 1mbps you got, switch to sprint and get the evo, or better, wait for the T-Mobile G2 (since you are on T-Mobile) which features HSPA+.

I have 1.6 Donut, I can't do tethering on it without root access. I did put Froyo on it but it was crappy on my hardware, I have the my touch 3g. I want EVO so bad, but I have two problems, first I have a contract with Tmobile that will end in 2012, if i break it, i would have to pay $400 early termination fee, since i have family plan. Second problem is that I want to be able to use my phone when i travel, i dont like to be limited to Sprints CDMA.
Hopefully at some point I will buy the new Samsung Galaxy i think? that Tmobile has now, but I don't want to spend money yet.

That's stupid that it is only restricted to sh*tberry!

Samsung Vibrant is the Galaxy S version of T-Mobile, insane device, but if you tether a lot, get T-Mobile G2 and gain extra speed from the HSPA+ network (if it is available in your city!)
