Ladies n gentlemen, the title says it all, can you ever have too much pity for others? (homeless people, people with disabilities, enemy at his weakest point, a friend in a bad emotional state, etc...)

It doesn't have to be either this or that if you ask me.
Pity could be the absolute worst thing someone could do sometimes.
We were given a heart...it doesn't mean we make others miserable because of it.Some people "pity" others to make themselves feel better.It could have a positive effect of course but people should really get a grip and learn how to use it.
I would feel bad if someone doesn't have a home...people like that should be taken care of not left living under bridges picking into people's left overs.
I would not however feel pity for the disabled in a manner at which I appear like I am two seconds close to (excuse me ya3ne ) esh7ad 3layon...grow up people.Pity here precisely is disgusting.Assumptions about them are equally bad.I need not elaborate although I could go on and on and on,I should know .Helping them if they needed it however is a different thing...you know hypothetically for me in the meantime just so I don't sound like I'm being too idealistic.
Enemy wise...well I don't recall having enemies but ...إذا قدرت على عدوك فاجعل العفو عنه شكراً للقدرة عليه
Friend...bad emotional state?I would only feel bad because they're feeling bad and I like my people feeling good ...then I'd try to help else I'd be a lousy friend.
family member...well a family sticks together.I would help.That would have a better effect than useless pats on the back...but anyway depends on the situation...example's too broad.
Feel sorry for myself in a negative sense?no....cut myself some slack and have nothing days because I appreciate my hard work and deserve a break,yes
Being a complete rock is awful too...all depends on the situation...but middle grounds are good within the usual.
And....I don't forgive out of pity if the person was not really at least trying to be sorry.
All in all,watch your tone and manners around people...they notice pity\heart of steelness and take it as you're being uppity on them.

Personally, I learned from life that no one will give you mercy when it comes to their own benefit. Why should I have any sympathy or mercy?

I feel pity for people who had something and then lost it, like people who were normal and happy, and then got into an accident and lost their legs or their homes or their money etc... but I don't feel pity for those who were born into a situation and remain in it, like africans and chinese etc... apparently they don't feel it is too bad, since they keep havign children of their own

In my opinion I don’t like the pity (الشفقة ) feeling, because I think it’s when you feel that the other person is inferior, or you make him feel that you have something he doesn’t have, and when this person feels that he is inferior his misery or sadness will increase. For this reason, I prefer the term empathy (التعاطف) or making the other person feels that you are with him in bad times and good times, not because you should, but because you care for him.
