Anyone would succeed without a degree if he/she is self-taught.
Sometimes we cannot deep_test the whole population. We try to look for a benchmark; So people holding a degree are pretty well assumed to have reached a certain level of knowledge that enables them to carry a certain job. That's how things are in our world: Good companies doesn't hire you properly if you don't have a certain degree, unless you're a genius and they know that you are (Sometimes you might be a genius but no one knows about you). There are always other options why good companies might hire you (other than having a degree or being a genius), you might be a lucky person.

I'm sure that I can succeed in anything related to computers, but I want to continue these 2 years of my university so I get a master degree in computer engineering. After I finish, I would like to work in a decent company (I dream about working in Google, but that won't happen...). If not (the most probable case), then I'll continue doing a PHD in the field of computers.

Could you?
I would have left school, not university.

I can't
having a degree usualy automaticly boosts your salary, and having a degree gives you an edge in winning an interview against people without a degree
unless you are persuing something freelance, like opening your own business or investing or taking any other risk like that, I wouldn't leave my university

you'd be lucky if you have a uni degree+love what you do and are good at it and find a good paying job

perhaps Danny was an exception, he achieved what many would fail to do, but you can't make it a rule that you can quit university and still find a good job

Basically, I was against this decision when he told me that he is going to leave the uni!

as I told him, the main reason of this was eno these days, with a university degree, you wont be able to find a job easily so kif baleha?

W also, let us assume that he is working w everything bs nobody knows kif byobroum l douleb L so it’s better to have a degree…

Anyway Allah ywafi2 l jami3 J

i honestly was surprised to see some supportive people not only here but in real life.
Everything against the traditional way is seen wrong (i already posted about this subject in another thread).

It's all about how you see things, most people believe that having a degree is a sign of knowledge and can get them a decent life, unfortunately (for them) they were proved wrong nowadays since most of them are going overseas to find a job, work all their lives to end up "surviving"; of course i won't generalize but it's just an example that having a degree is not enough to get you even started properly.

The way i see it is pretty simple, what's the role of uni? what's the role of school?
Help you to get knowledge and give you the basics to get you started.
When you can achieve those by yourself and don't, in my opinion, you will be making a really big mistake since you will be lowering your learning process to the minimum, i chose my way and my "douleb" haven't turned yet or maybe turned in the right direction at a higher speed and it wasn't "Luck" nor "By mistake". I worked really hard on myself when kids were playing video games, going out or even studying.

All of the above posts ideas were about getting the degree to be adopted by X company. Or do this or that underestimating your capabilities and what you could achieve. Why always thinking about posts, companies, monthly salaries. People regardless if you have a degree or not what you know and what you can do will make you reach everywhere you want regardless how you learned it or when simply because whoever gonna buy your product or have you to create him a system doesn't care if you were short or tall, fat or skinny, graduated or not as long you make him satisfied and get what he wants.

I am 21 years old work from home with dynamic shifts with a way higher income comparing to people my age, the only one not holding a degree among 10 engineers at work, yet the most privileged. Mistake? luck? not at all it's knowledge and EXPERIENCE.

Just get out of "That's how things happen" and create your own ways, if you don't take risks in life, you will never achieve anything even using the easy-and-traditional-way-to-reach-stuff don't be fanatic to anything in life, be open to everything, to all possibilities and things you can achieve.

Finally as i always say, think big to go big =)

Education in Lebanon is becoming shitty, specially with big universities they deal with students like they are selling Tomatoes it is a big shame to see this happening.
I graduated with a BS in Computer and Communication Engineering,
Now because some of the Old private Universities dont like the Fact that they have competitors, and since they are controlling the Syndicate of Engineering they issued a Law to deprive us for our basic rights to be able to join the Syndicate after finishing our master, or even to transfer our credits to another university to be able to Finish the Diploma of Engineering.
The Only way to get in into the syndicate is to restart ur studies and loose 5 years,
Or you have to continue with an MS and hoping that later on the Syndicate will be kind and recognize our Degrees.
It is a shame a big shame this is frustrating, worldwide whenever you have a BS in Engineering/CS or anything related to science(Physics,Math) you just have to apply for MS/ME without the need even to transfer you credit and Directly Start ur Studies.
The Universities in Lebanon changed from Educational Institutions to Money/Blood sucking institutions.
Well Done Dany

Personally I am a person who likes achieving big educational degrees and I like the traditional way of education.

Both ways Works, Lots of people here in the forum knows that i am kind of self educative as well.

But from society point of view i do prefer to get higher degrees by time, people still rely on degrees to give credibility specially for young people.

Gave their opinion that they were against it but didn't force their opinion on me and supported me in my decision. I know this is rare to find in Lebanon but i really had no issues on this part =)
