I need to root my phone (HTC sensation), but i wish NOT to change anything with my rom , only give acess to root requiring apps , anyone care to explain how i can do that by details cz most online resources are too techy to understand , things like s-off and hboot they dont explain much.

I've been working this out for like two weeks. I finally understood everything. I will root soon when I have everything backed up.
ROM is a customizable system UI. I understand that you don't want to do that for now, and I don't advice you to do it as a start. Kernel is a firmware version. So if you need to update your system you need to update a kernel. For example, I'm currently running android 2.3.3 and I want to update to android 2.3.5. So you go to xda forums and lookup your phone's forum and search for its kernels. You get the latest one for your device. Rooting is simple. Just get SuperOneClick and it does everything. Google: HTC Sensation xda-developers and you'll find threads there

^^ Lah lah lah
You did not understand everything yet.A ROM is a whole system, not a system UI. And a Kernel is not a firmware version ![]() Quote:

@Tawa true, I don't know why I mixed it up with why I'd like to use ROMs (I was thinking that I would use a ROM just to get a new UI later on after I've done rooting).
I rooted my phone. Installed SetCPU. Everything was ok then it started to power off although the battery is good, dunno what happened. I removed it and everything is back to normal. I rooted so that I can use ProxyDroid [For University's Internet] and TitaniumBackup PRO. What apps do you suggest? Edit: @Systa Yes I've told you to use SuperOneClick I rooted my phone in less than a minute. You just connect it and press 'root'. That's it.
