Van Basten finally loses patience with Van Nistelrooy
Dutch coach Marco van Basten said on Friday he will no longer consider picking Ruud van Nistelrooy after the Real Madrid striker had basically "resigned" from the national squad. Van Basten, who was naming a 20-man squad for next week's friendly against Russia in Amsterdam, said he had no intention of picking the player again. Last week van Nistelrooy said he no longer wished to be considered for the squad because he had no confidence in van Basten. He has played 54 times for the Netherlands, scoring 28 goals. His absence, combined with the absence of the injured Robin van Persie and Arjen Robben has reduced van Basten's attacking opportunities. Thank You ...

Police officer killed in riot; Italian league games postponed; national team match canceled
A police officer was killed Friday when fans rioted at a Serie A game between Sicilian sides Catania and Palermo, prompting the Italian soccer federation to postpone all league matches this weekend and cancel next week's national team exhibition game against Romania. Fans rioted outside Catania's Angelo Massimino Stadium during the second half of Palermo's 2-1 win. Police fired tear gas, which wafted into the stadium and forced the match to be stopped in the 58th minute with Palermo leading 1-0. Television footage from Sky TG24 News showed players struggling to breathe and pouring bottled water on their faces. Police said the officer died after an explosive device was thrown inside his vehicle. The violence continued after the game, and hundreds of fans were trapped inside the stadium as authorities sought to avoid further violence. The ANSA news agency reported that nine fans had been detained, but none was suspected of killing the officer. The governing body of Italian soccer, Federazione Italiana Giuoco Calcio, said another police officer was in critical condition, and police said dozens of injured people had been taken to hospitals. FIGC commissioner Luca Pancalli announced weekend league games had been called off. وبيقولوا في عنّا شغب !!!!1 Thank You ...

Most important matches of the primera division (Spain) February 4 according to Lebanese time
20:00 Real Madrid - Levante 22:00 Osasuna - Barcelona Australia court Klinsmann for World Cup: report SYDNEY (AFP) - Germany´s World Cup coach Jurgen Klinsmann has been sounded out by Australia to lead their 2010 World Cup campaign, according to reports. Klinsmann, who led host nation Germany to third place at last year's World Cup, met Peter Lowy, son of Football Federation Australia chairman Frank Lowy, for lunch in Los Angeles last Tuesday, the Sun-Herald newspaper said. The newspaper quoted one observer who said of the meeting: "Real estate was one subject they discussed but coaching opportunities with Australia were tossed around. "The meeting was definitely business and not at all a social call." FFA officials Sunday declined to confirm that the meeting had taken place and Klinsmann could not be immediately contacted for comment. But the former German striker is known to favour coaching international football over taking on the day-to-day grind of club duties. "I'm preparing myself for something new that might come along," Klinsmann said last week. "It could happen in a month or two, or a year or two. "You have to be open to a lot of things. There is not an endlessly long list of job options at this level. The air is pretty thin up there. "And if it's the right fit with the family and the right challenge, you go to the country where you might have once never thought you'd go."
