Default Nsofwa’s Death Sends Shockwaves In Zambia

Nsofwa’s Death Sends Shockwaves In Zambia

Following the death of Zambian striker Chaswe Nsofwa in Israel, many of the player’s countrymen are finding it hard to deal with the loss.

The 27-year-old collapsed during training session on Wednesday and was later pronounced dead after he was taken to an Israeli hospital.

The President of the Football Association of Zambia (Faz), Teddy Mulonga, is still in disbelief at this tragic development.

"He may have had his own up-and-downs as a player but this is the guy who scored one of the goals in the Cosafa final last year when we beat Angola 2-0," Mulonga told BBC Sport.

"Chaswe was one of the great prospects at the 1999 Under-20 World Cup and was a great talent. I am sad, absolutely sad."

Zambia’s care-taker coach Patrick Phiri was considering to call-up Nsofwa for a crucial African Nations Cup qualifier against South Africa in September.

Phifi, who coached the player in the U-20 team in 1999, says Nsofwa’s death is a big loss.

"My plans for the South Africa match have been dealt a big blow," he said.

"It's very painful that the cruel hand of death has robbed us of such a talent.

"This is a great blow not only to his family but the whole nation."

Nsofwa’s death follow’s the sudden death of another player, Antonio Puerta, on Tuesday after collapsing while playing for Spanish club Sevilla against Getafe on Sunday.

Nsofwa has previously played for Zambian champions Zanaco and had stints in Russia and Malaysia.

whom to blame?? THE FIFA!! it became only a money sucking machine!! exhausting the players around the world! especially in europe! so fans would attend more games , and buy more stuff , they play in the week 3 times , not to mention the practises!
