Manchester City have completed the signing of Arsenal midfielder Samir Nasri for £24 (€27.3) million and will sign a four year deal at Eastlands.


The Blues have finally captured the Frenchman - who only had a year left on his contract - after a long summer pursuit of the 24-year-old and he completed his medical on Tuesday missing Arsenal's Champions League qualifier against Udinese.

Wenger had earlier revealed that Nasri would not be leaving the Emirates this transfer window but the playmaker became unsettled after hearing interest from Roberto Mancini’s side and a reported £180,000 a week wages.

It now means the Gunners have lost two massive names in as many weeks following the departure of Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona and after a fairly average start to the season the pressure is mounting on Wenger to bring in quality players to match the quality that has left.

Lille’s Eden Hazard has been linked with the Gunners recently but they will be unlikely to sell one of their most coveted stars unless a big offer comes in.

For Manchester City, Nasri becomes their fifth summer signing and joins Argentinean ace Sergio Aguero and former team mate Gael Clichy at Eastlands.

Arsenal look set to complete their second signing on transfer deadline day after agreeing terms with Werder Bremen's Per Mertesacker in a deal believed to be around £10 million (€11.3m).


The German looks set to follow Andre Santos – who completed his transfer from Fenerbahce on Wednesday – to the club, as manager Arsene Wenger brings in more experienced players.

Mertesacker is a strong 6'6" defender and has 75 caps for Germany, adding a wealth of experience and knowledge at the highest level.

The centre-back has played in the Bundesliga for eight seasons, making 221 appearances and scoring 19 goals in the process.

The 26-year-old will be a welcome defensive addition for Arsenal, who shipped eight goals in a historic defeat to Manchester United on Sunday.

The club have announced that the transfer will be completed once formal registration processes are completed.
