What do you think of freedom of speech?
Do you think humans should have the right to say whatever they want and why? Do you think we have freedom of speech through internet?

OK first of all thanks a lot Jess for starting this thread...
We can't say "Freedom of Speech" is a right that should be granted to us, it is born with us. All we have to do is preserve it and protect from people and parties interested in taking that right away. I hold it as the second most basic right after the right to live. I find it very ironic that mostly religious people tend to express doubt and even pass laws to restrict this freedom forgetting that they all suffered from such restrictions when they started their religions...Jews, Muslims, Christians...they all suffered to start their religions, how can they forget? It is all written in history books...or is this a backlash or revenge somehow?if it is,they are avenging in a chaotic manner to say the least about it.... Anyway not to stray off topic, I will present the challenge here...If you think it should be restricted you should specify on what criteria...If you wanna say insulting others or spreading hatred, everyone knows that all this changes with time and it is never a fixed rule(thats the way it is also supposed to be,I am thankfull) As for internet, the same rules should apply and they mostly do....I do think some restrictions are unnecessary....aside from restricting images of pornographic nature in pages where minors are likely to visit(like this forum for example), I see no restriction as valid.... Peace

I agree that it should have limits, however not all countries and cultures agree on what the limits are. I believe that each country should choose those limits democratically. Also, freedom of speech is a right and rights shouldn't be misused.

As for globalization, the rights such "the right to live" and "freedom of speech" are the norm for most of the world. When it comes to extreme regimes such as Iran and the KSA, the lack of human rights is a result of ignorance and greed. The problems in such nations are solved with time, remember that the democratic nations were the same as Iran and the KSA in the past. |

akid I believe in freedom of speech but i also believe that bashing and attacking others/other's opinions and beliefs in a personal and bad way has nothing to do with the "democratic" freedom of speech. (ya3ne i dnt have the right to vilify and attack a person, group or subject in a harsh n prejudicial way
