 افادت تقارير اخبارية على صعيد الرياضة العالمية ان شركة الاتصالات السعودية قد قدمت عرضا لنادي مانشستر يونايتد لمدة 5 اعوام مقابل 125 مليون جنيه استرليني،  يتم بموجبها عرض العلامة التجارية للشركة السعودية على قميص بطل انجلترا ودوري الأبطال وأندية العالم . وأعلنت شركة التأمين الأمريكية العملاقة "AIG"، في وقت سابق من هذا الأسبوع أنها لن تجدد عقد رعايتها لمانشستر يونايتد الذي سينتهي مع ختام الموسم المقبل، نظرا للظروف المالية الصعبة التي تمر بها . ومنذ هذا الإعلان تهافتت العروض من أضخم شركات العالم للظفر برعاية أكثر الأندية شعبية في العالم، الأمر الذي دفع مسؤولي النادي الى رفع قيمة الرعاية السنوية من 14.1 مليون باوند التي كانت تتقاضها من AIG الى 19 مليون، إلا ان الشركة السعودية بعرضها 25 مليون جعلت الأمور تحسم لصالحها بشكل كبير . وتتطلع الاتصالات السعودية الشركة الرائدة بتقديم خدمات الهاتف الأرضي والجوال والانترنت، الى الانتشار في الشرق الأوسط وماليزيا واندونيسيا وجنوب افريقيا، وترى ان رفع شعارها على ناد يحظى بشعبية جارفة في تلك المنطقة والعالم كمانشستر سيساعدها كثيرا على بلوغ هدفها . كما وأن الشركة ذاتها ترتبط بعقد حالي مع مانشستر يونايتد لاستخدام شعار ونجوم الفريق في ترويج منتجاتهم داخل السعودية، لمدة 5 اعوام مقابل 15 مليون جنيه استرليني .
