Default Why??

Why people do not read anymore?
and those who read they just read when they're bored and they never make a special time for reading... this is totally different from what our parents and grandparents used to do...
So from ur own experience and from what u r seeing and noticing, Why you do not read anymore as much as our old generations used to do??

PS: ur answers will be wrote as an article in a magazine that i'll declare abt later.

Because in the old times people used to rely on books only, they had no tv and no internet. Books were their only way to get news and information, unlike now. today the internet and tv have overcome. they are much easier and much faster, especially that today's generation is 'too busy' to dedicate a definite time for reading.

However you should not generalize.
Lots of people still read a lot and still perceive it as a passion.

On a personal level, i read a lot, a lot and a lot.
magazines, newspapers, articles, social, psychological, philosophy,& scientific books in arabic, english and french.
Maybe because my major requires to do so.

But one cannot deny that the majority prefers the easier and faster way i.e. internet and tv. books are to be stored in our ever-lasting libraries...

what are you talking about?
us not reading
we go to the school and after that to the uni, an average student by the time he is 21 he would have read more stuff than any old 60 year old would have in the past generation

the average 16 year old these days is smarter and wise than 50 year old back in these days
plus our old generation, what did they read? bible w eben el roumi

I don't exactly consider this education or benefit anyway

my grandpa read alot, still he has no clue about computers, biology, math etc... that also makes me question the benefit of the reading they did besides than being "just for fun"

our generation is better

humans evolve to the better with each generation, no one can convince us that going backwards is good, and believing so is wrong

who said that i dont read??
half of my time on the internet i keep on reading , news , pc hardware and software stuff .
i recently got this book , henderson the rainking , although its a really great great book , but i dont know why am not finding anytime to read it , i have no explanation.
before fixing internet into home , i used to eat books and newspapers and magazines and whatever thing that has letters comes through my way , i was passionate for reading and im still .
only that the internet has taken almost all of my time , not to mention the uni , studyin , going out etc...

I didn't say that u don't read!
but no one today reads as much as before!
For example, my neighbour is abt 50 y/o he has read about 5000 books other than magazines, news, articles... and he knows very well abt computers and all the technologies and he's a manager in the LBC!!
So mr-J that doesn't makes us any better!! cz all of the technologies started from the creation of the alphabet.. even computers are based on that!! Plus it's not about knowing the technologies nor biology nor math, it's about creating and discovering...

So I'll clarify more!! maybe you all do read but does all the people around you read???
So am just asking why we don't read AS MUCH AS BEFORE?

kingroudy, one of the elite members and moderators (pahhhhhh kidding) said:
with the introduction of new costumes and habits into our daily life, like internet, our non-filled (i don't mean free) time became shorter, and the day is still equal to 24h. that leaves us with no time to read, yet we are getting a higher than ever knowledge level from schools, universities, and internet.
Reading isn't just books about ibn sina and socrates, neither just novels of victor hugo and jean jack roussaux.

but we do read books
you just don't notice that you are actualy reading a book. every biology course I took in the uni required a different book to read and memorise
mich bas read, read w lamma t5alles boil it w chrablo mayto
and I'm not saying all books are ibin sina and all that, but most books 50 years ago and before were like that
and I assumed you were talking about our grandfathers and our fathers growing up
when my dad was my age, what was there available to read? especialy in lebanon it is the books that I mentionned
now with the internet books are more accessible

and you define your neighbor as belonging to the "before" era?
how would he read about computers and articles if the modern day technology was not present?
this is what I mean

ask him when he as 15 years old and 19 years old, what did he read?

edit: and 5000 books for a 50 year old is an exageration, a huge exageration
the man is 18000 days old approximatly
substract the first 10 years of his life( I am sure he didn't read anything when he was 3 years od ) so that's 15000 books since he was 10 years old(assuming sha2a3 ketob since he was 10)

can you finish one book each 3 days and still have time to go to work and live a life?

Yes he is from the odl era!!!
cz am asking abt people who's age in not more than 25!!! I doubt that there's more than 20% of this generation who reads! (and i'm not talking abt school and uni books! these books teaches u some principles and rules but never teaches u how to live, they doesn't give u experience abt life, they just fill ur head with infos and knowledge but not with culture...)

And yeah I can finish a book in one day!!!
Everyday I read more than 3 newspapers (cz am becoming a journalist), I check all the news sites, I go to uni, I spend time with friends, I spend time with my family, I surf vcoderz, I watch tv and I still have free time and the best thing is that I never get bored!!!

I don't read because simply I don't have time.
I have a lot of things much more important than reading stories.
Well I read newspapers, school books, websites ... but picking a special story and reading is so far from me !
