New phone, what do i get?

Hello folks,

I decided to change my current mobile (Iphone 3G) to something else.
It's not that i gave up on Iphones, it's an awesome, smooth, powerful and classy machine but i want to try something new and i need your suggestions.

I've been reading about Android for sometime now and it seems to be gaining ground fast, let alone my fascination towards open source & Google especially that it's based on Unix (IOS is too though).
So bottom line, I'm looking for an Android OS, which distribution & version do you suggest and why.

Samsung, HTC, Nokia... which brand and model do you think is best deal of high performance for best value (providing hardware specs would be great).

Better be a solid machine too, i don't wanna change it after falling the first time. Iphone does a good job when it comes to this.

rooted Samsung i9000 Galaxy S with a Launcher of ur choice (i've got the ADW one) ---> simply a monster, a friendly smooth monster

samsung galaxy S II or HTC sensation , these 2 beasts will hit the market soon! ... spec wise samsung beats the HTC , but if it's up to me i'll choose HTC over samsung ...

ps: keep in mind that these phones will demand a huge budget...

Samsung Galaxy S II or HTC Sensation.
similar specs, but based on my experience with HTC and the great software and firmware they provide, i recommend the sensation. (you can check its sublime UI on youtube)
