Names in Lebanon are just hilarious, specially the new generations.
Check out this article in Al-akhbar أما بالنسبة إلى أسماء الدول فتحصي الدراسة 637 مواطناً يدعون سوريا أو سورية، مقابل 206 فقط يدعون لبنان، 33 إيران، 26 بيرو، 15 أميركا، و12 فرنسا. كما يوجد 997 مواطناً (تتجاوز أعمارهم الـ24) يدعون باسل، 605 حافظ، 433 بشار، 54 سادات، و39 صدّام. We have newborns being called Sanioura and 14azar lol, not to mention we have tens of Hitlers, Degaulle, Napoleon, Fidel, 1 Mussolini etc ..أما بالنسبة إلى الزعماء الأجانب، فيوجد في لبنان 157 غاندي، 60 ديغول، 58 رومل، 26 كينيدي، 26 نابليون، 20 بابلو، 12 فيديل، 12 هتلر، 10 لينين، 8 كاسترو، 8 غيفارا، 7 كليوبترا، 6 ماركس، 4 ستالين، و1 موسوليني What is funny is how they call their sons the last names of those leaders, except Bashir or few others. Article also mentions 10% of the new Lebanese-Canadian generation is called Bashir. كما تحظى أسماء السياسيين المسيحيين بانتشار واسع، إذ تكشف الدراسة أن 3694 من اللبنانيين يدعون داني، 597 دوري، و1999 بشير. وأظهرت دراسة أعدّها الأكاديمي جورج فرح في كندا، أن 10% من الجيل اللبناني ــــــ الكندي الجديد (أقلّ من 30 عاماً) يحملون اسم بشير. Funny thing there are barely any Aouns or Hakims, tsk tsk ..
