Social networks, interesting or waste of time?

I think the idea is obvious from the title.
Do you think spending time on Facebook, Twitter and other social networks is a waste of time or interesting and why?

I think following other peoples updates on FB/Twitter is stupid and a waste of time. It's neither a discussion nor a conversation, unlike on a forum.

It's not a waste of time when you are placing adds on marketplace...
It's not a waste of time when you are getting updates regarding ur sis, bro, cousins khsouse if you're outside leb.

im using it less day by day, sometimes i forget to open facebook except when a costumers calls for a report for his/her facebook ads online campaign

One of the benefits is that I stay in touch with some people that are outside of the country (family, friends, etc...), and re-connecting with my old school mates. Sometimes meeting new people.
