There's something very special and important about this match... If Bayern wins it, the german league will take the italian fourth spot in the champions league starting from 2011/2012 season, so we would have 4 german and 3 italian teams in the CL, but if Inter wins it, nothing changes...

BREAKING NEWS: Franck Ribery out of Champions League final as UEFA reject Bayern Munich appeal, Germans will take case to CAS

Sad potential end to Bayern career for Frenchman...

By Alex Dimond
5 May 2010 17:23:00

Franck Ribery will miss Bayern Munich's Champions League final clash with Inter Milan after UEFA rejected his appeal against the red card he received in the semi-final.

The French forward was given his marching orders in the first leg at the Allianz Arena for an ugly lunge on Olympique Lyonnais forward Lisandro Lopez, and after missing the second leg of his side's 4-0 aggregate victory he will now serve the remainder of his three-match ban, after an appeal was rejected at a hearing in Nyon on Wednesday.

The club's chairman, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, attended the hearing to plead the 27-year-old's case but to no avail. Disappointed with the outcome, the club is now preparing to take their case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, hoping to finally getting the ruling overturned.

Assuming that the move is unsuccessful, it means Ribery will have to watch the showpiece final — which takes place on May 22 at the Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid — from the stands.

It could prove a sad ending to Ribery's career with the Bavarian giants, as the left-sided forward is widely tipped to make a move to either Real Madrid, Barcelona or Chelsea in the summer.

So if Bayern wins, there will be 4 german teams in the CL NEXT SEASON (2010/2011).. not as I have mentioned before (2011/2012)

Champions League Final: A battle for immortality

One things is certain: the winning team will become the first from their country and only the sixth in history to complete the 'treble'.

Having not won the competition in 45 years Jose Mourinho and Inter Milan enter the final for the first time in 38 years to face an FC Bayern München team who were last there in 2001.

Ivica Olic - Lucio

Ivica Olic is Bayern's top goalscorer in the Champions League scoring seven times: only Lionel Messi (Barcelona) is ahead of him with eight. Five of the last seven goals FC Bayern have scored can be claimed by Olic. Bayern's marathon man scored a hat-trick in the semi-final against Lyon, a feat only matched by Alessandro Del Piero (Juventus) in this years competition.

With Lucio Bayern have a very hard nut to crack. Winning 74.4% of his 133 tackles, the ex-Bayern player is the best tackler in the Champions League. He is also top of the statistics in terms of clearances made in the competition, which could reach 100 by the end of the final. Olic and Lucio have faced each other four times with Lucio remaining unbeaten (1 win, 3 draws).

Arjen Robben - Javier Zanetti

As a goal threat Arjen Robben should not hide behind Ivica Olic, having scored 4 goals from 15 attempts in the competition. They were often the deciding goals, for instance the spectacular strike against Fiorentina in the 3:2 win or the winning goal against Manchester United. The ex-Real Madrid player has scored 23 goals in 36 appearances in all competitions and only Messi and Hulk (FC Porto) have dribbled more successfully than Robben (41%).

Javier Zanetti, after Lucio is Inter Milan's best ball winner (68.8%). The talismanic Argentinian will be the oldest player on the pitch at 36 having played for Inter for 15 years. He is the only outfield player who has played in all 12 matches during the competition for Inter and has found his man with 90% of his passes.

Bastian Schweinsteiger - Wesley Sneijder

Bastian Schweinsteiger, played the fourth highest amount of passes in the opposition's half (451, 81% accuracy) and is the only non-Barcelona in the top eight. Alongside Robben he is also the most fouled Bayern player in the Champions League (fouled 25 times). The midfielder from Munich switched to defensive midfield this season but was Bayerns most aggressive player attempting 138 tackles, sixth highest in the competition, winning 59.4% of them.

Wesley Sneijder , provided the joint most assists, five, alongside Arshavin (Arsenal) and Gilardino (Fiorentina) and is just behind Xavi (Barcelona) in setting up the most goalscoring opportunities (30). With eight scoring points (3 goals, 5 assists) he is joint top scorer in the Champions League with Olic, Gilardino and Messi.

Daniel van Buyten - Diego Milito

Daniel van Buyten is Bayern's rock in defense. Thanks to his 1,96m frame the Belgian dominates in the air and won 87.5% of his headers in the Champions League this season. Both Van Buyten and Philipp Lahm were the most successful Bayern players at dispossessing their opponents (25) while the Belgian led the way in clearances (55).

In the final it will be Bayern defense that has to deal with Diego Milito. Of his 17 shots on goal 13 were on target – a great balance. With four goals he is Inter's top goalscorer in the competition. The Argentinean scored in all 3 homes games during the knockout stages. A good omen for the Italians: they have won every game in the Champions League when Milito has scored.

Webb gets Madrid assignment

English referee Howard Webb has been appointed by the UEFA Referees Committee to take charge of Saturday's UEFA Champions League final between FC Bayern München and FC Internazionale Milano at the Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid (kick-off 20.45CET).

The 38-year-old from Rotherham has been an international referee since 2005 and has officiated 47 UEFA matches in his career. At the final, Webb will be assisted by his countrymen Michael Mullarkey and Darren Cann. The fourth official will be Martin Atkinson, also from England.

Webb has handled 19 UEFA Champions League fixtures in total, including six this season. Among them, he officiated the quarter-final first leg between Internazionale and PFC CSKA Moskva in Milan and the group stage game between FC Dynamo Kyiv and FC Barcelona in Kyiv. He also took charge of the semi-final first leg of the 2008/09 UEFA Cup in Bremen between Werder Bremen and Hamburger SV.

In addition, Webb has been appointed for several prestigious national team matches, including two UEFA EURO 2008 final round fixtures and three 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying games. A former police officer who enjoys keeping fit, Webb was inspired to pick up the whistle by his father at the age of 18.

lol Inter don't have any Italians in the starting eleven. Hell they won't have anyone on the bench even . I really don't understand this "Italian rule" " German rules" thing. Inter are Inter the club just because they play in Serie A doesn't mean they represent Italy or whatever. When it comes to clubs, you consider the club only and not what league they play in. I'm sure many Italian fans who actually support a certain club like for instance Juventus fans, will never support Inter.
