5- Vista Ultimate? Naaaahhhh... don't even try to look in there, too heavy. Way too overloaded with crappy graphics and animations that will suck the life out of your VGA, NVRAM and PageFile.
6- Get one of the latest systems on the market (affordable that is, high-end 1600$) and take a look at the rating system Vista gives to your hardware. You won't get more than 3.0/5.0! Why? Simply because nowadays systems aren't fully ready to support such a heavy OS.
Are you trying to say that the performance of games and other heavy duty applications will suffer because of Ultimate?

I have always wanted to move to Linux...When I bought my new laptop and worked on Vista I became anti-Microsoft..I am now on Ubuntu 7.10....

Surely XP is way better than Vista, If you have to have windows(I dont see why) , I would advise it to be XP
