here i disagree, when an american says "souvenir" and "rendez-vous", he still speaks english,
not a mixture. Even more, the lebanese accent is the closest to fos7a comparing to others, that's
why all arabs understand us as we speak, which is not the same for us.

Thanks for reading the article guys :P Ma the whole point of it was to say we are neither phoenicians, nor are we arabs, we're simply Lebanese.
Also, i dont think it's what politicians boast about to kiss the behinds of others more powerful than them that decides whether or not Lebanon is arabic or not, it's us, the people, our culture...

The main problem in that issue is what define arab? If beeing arabic country is beeing attached to the Islam world, of course we will refuse it, since we refuse to have a religious Lebanon, Lebanon was build on the unity and not on the domination of the religions.

With all my respect to your opinion and everyone's too, being an Arab does not necessarily relate you to Islam, as for many Muslims are not Arabs. Actually, speaking in numbers, most Muslims are not Arabs. The only relation is that, Islam started in an arabic region, just as the Juddahism and Chrisitianity.
"NO" voters are expressing their objection to the typical arab character drawn in the western cultures. The Arab culture is defintely in its lowest peak, thats why, many try to deny being arabic. If the Arab culture ruled the world (just as centuries ago), I am sure, this poll would have different results.
Finally, identity does not mean where did your ancestors come from, otherwise we would all (humanity) have the same identity. Didnt we all come from the same source?
