Default Madrid Begin Operation Van Der Vaart

Bernd Schuster has told Real Madrid that signing Rafael van der Vaart is a priority and the club have sent representatives to Hamburg to open negotiations

The Spanish giants are set to offer €15m for the former Ajax midfielder, who is preparing to play his first game in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

Madrid's interest in Van Der Vaart was revealed after Schuster's appointment and the former Ajax star has admitted that he would jump at the chance to move to the Bernabéu.

"Van der Vaart is on my list of wanted players," Schuster told Kicker recently. "The club knows his price and if we want we can sign him for the amount."

Van Der Vaart's agent, Soren Lerby, was remainined tight-lipped over the latest developments, but hinted that he expects something to happen over the next few days.

"Right now, we cannot comment on this matter," he explained. "We shall have to see what happens."

Van der Vaart has a contract with Hamburg until 2011, but has stated that he would leave the club if, and only if, Madrid were to make a concrete offer for his services.

"I want to play in the Champions League and to win trophies and Madrid is a great club," the 24-year-old was quoted as saying recently.

"I will continue to play for Hamburg of course, unless Real Madrid come for me. If they do, then I do not think that I could say no."

Bayern Munich failed with a €15m bid at the start of the summer break, but the player's desire to sign for los Merengues could well see him allowed to leave.

Hamburg paid just €5m for Van der Vaart two years ago and he has missed several games for the club due to a number of minor injuries.

Predrag Mijatovic, who was in Rotterdam on Thursday tying up the deal for Royston Drenthe, has maintained constant contact with Lerby and is ready to negotiate with Hamburg.

Van der Vaart was born in Heemskerk in Holland, but has a Spanish mother and family in Cádiz who he visits on a regular basis and they have told him that they would love him to join Madrid.

Those ties and the attraction of playing for such a glamorous club have meant that if Hamburg are willing to accept the offer, then the player would quickly agree personal terms.

Default Inter Readying Lampard Bid

According to the ‘Corriere dello Sport’, Inter president Massimo Moratti has given the green-light to his directors to make an audacious swoop for Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard.

he England international midfielder has long been on Inter’s wish-list, but up until now there never seemed a realistic chance of adding him to their already star-studded squad.

Even Moratti would likely admit that prising away a fundamental cornerstone of Chelsea constitutes a long shot, but they are taking the fact that he has at least temporarily pulled out of contract extension talks as a clear indication that he and his representatives are willing to take other offers into serious consideration.

Lampard justified his departure from the table by saying that he does not want contract talks to distract from the business of playing football this season, but one doesn’t have to be especially cynical to think that he is in reality just cleverly improving his bargaining position in light of his 2009-expiring contract.

If there’s one thing that the powers that be at Stamford Bridge don’t like its being bullied, and the hope of Inter as well as Juventus and Barcelona is that the relations between club and player degenerate to the extent that he is no longer considered unsellable.

Default Real Madrid Net Wesley Sneijder For 27M

Former Ajax man Wesley Sneijder has penned a five year deal with Real Madrid, according to the club's official website...

Wesley Sneijder has completed his transfer to Real Madrid, according to the Spanish side's official website.

His switch from Ajax has been in the works for other a month, but had recently stalled due to disputes over the transfer fee.

However, the Dutch giants appear to have finally reached an accord with Los Merengues. This was far from guaranteed: lately, Real Madrid refused to pay 27 million euros up front, with Ajax refusing to budge from their valuation.

However, according to Ajax's official web page, Madrid have relented, agreeing to meet their asking price for the midfielder. Reports in Spain, however, suggest that the figure is around 26m.
What matters most, perhaps, is that Los Merengues have confirmed that Sneijder will wear white for the next five seasons.

Wesley, a 23 year old midfielder, is a product of the famous Ajax youth academy. After breaking into the first team in 2002, he quickly established himself both as a key player at the Amsterdam ArenA, and as a Dutch international.
He had been linked with a move to the Premiership, and had almost completed a move to Valencia earlier this summer, but for Quique Sanchez Flores to veto it during his internal conflict with Amedeo Carboni.
Interestingly, the transfer fee agreed back then was around 14 million euros.

Milan Make Final Baptista Offer

The Correire dello Sport reports that AC Milan are set to bid for Real Madrid's out-of-favour attacking midfielder Julio Baptista.
The Brazilian playmaker, who spent last season on loan at Arsenal, is out of favour at the Bernabeu, and the paper reports that the Milan technical staff see the player as ideal to complete their squad.
So a move could make sense. But that leaves many details to thrash out.
Madrid are said to be open to the prospect of a loan, but would only sell the player completely for a significant sum. Milan, however, are unwilling to splash the cash on the player for the time being.
However, they could still yet land the player. Apparently, rossoneri vice-president Adriano Galliani offered his Madrid counterpart Pedja Mijatovic a fee of 2 million euro up front for the loan, with a further 12 million in a buyout clause, on July 29.
No further negotiations have taken place since then, but it is understood that the offer is still there for the taking - and Madrid may now be close to accepting it.
Nothing is signed and sealed yet, and it remains just a rumour, but contact between the two over the 25 year old, 35 times capped Brazilian international has been confirmed in the past.
With the recent arrival of Arjen Robben, and a host of midfield talent already arriving at Madrid this summer, Pedja may feel that it's best to cash in on Baptista before the transfer window slams shut tomorrow.

Italian Press: Juve Plot Summer Lampard Move Italian sports daily Tuttosport claims that the Juventus hierarchy has promised coach Claudio Ranieri a bid for Chelsea star Frank Lampard in summer - should the manager meet his targets...

Tuttosport has stated that Juventus will make an audacious move for Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard, should coach Claudio Ranieri guide the Old Lady to the Champions League places.

Juventus have just returned to Serie A and are looking to pick up where they left off by challenging around the top of the table. Ranieri, though, wishes to build his squad for the long term - and may opt to build his midfield around Lampard.

Now, Tuttosport claims that the Juve board has pledged to make a serious approach for the England international next summer, providing that they are guaranteed lucrative Champions League income.

Frank is under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2009, but has not yet re-opened negotiations with the club with a view to extending the deal.

This has stoked the fires of speculation, with many claiming that Lampard could move on next summer - and Chelsea could opt to cash in on the former West Ham United man.

What's more, the player's agent met with Alessio Secco, Juventus director, earlier this year, and publicly stated his admiration for Lampard.
