go to your firewall settings and set the connection between the 2 pcs to "trusted" (or whatever it is called) (on both pcs). and disable windows firewall.
DONE!

well i tried connecting xp-vista several times.as kingroudy said ..turn off the firewall of ur antivirus and the built-in...if u want play games then its okay u can ..if u want to share files...u need to open the network and sharing center in vista..and allow something called public sharing...then u need to specify for each pc or laptop an IP anything ..and then go to any folder and share it . if u still have probs tell me

hmmm not all games at least. i.e: company of heroes didn't play before i disabled the firewall.
as for the other things, go to the network sharing center of vista and configure everything from there.

use 192.168.0.1 |or| 192.168.1.1
and 192.168.0.2 |or| 192.168.1.2
subnet is 255.255.255.0
try without gateways, or set each pc's gateway the same as IP of the other PC
32 ms response on cable networking is TOOOOOOOOOOOOO much.
yalla it should work now
