Manchester City's Jerome Boateng: I have agreed a four-year deal with Bayern Munich

Manchester City defender Jerome Boateng confirmed today that he has agreed a deal with Bayern Munich.

"It's true, I have agreed to a four-year contract with Bayern," he told Kicker. "Now it's up to Manchester City as to whether it will work out. At the moment, they are making it a bit difficult."

Indeed, City have reportedly slapped a €20 million price tag on the 22-year-old, who left Hamburg a year ago for an estimated €12.5m. Boateng nonetheless is honoured by the interest lodged by the German record champions.

"When FC Bayern makes an inquiry, it is something very special. It is an honour for me, such an offer does not come every day. I know many players at Bayern, which to me is one of the top six clubs in Europe."

He added that a switch would support his aspirations with Germany.

"It is also about the position. Bayern want to use me as a central defender, which would also give me advantages with the national team."

Primarily a centre-back at HSV, Boateng has played on the right during his tenure at City. With both of Germany's central defensive positions up for grabs, Boateng feels that his best chance of featuring at Euro 2012 is in the centre.

Boateng also explained that City coach Roberto Mancini will not stand between him and a move to Bayern.

"We had a good conversation. He said that he really did not want to let me go, but can understand my reasons. He does not want to put any blocks in the way, that gives me hope."

The primary roadblock to a deal between City and Bayern now is release fee. It has been reported that the Germans wish to spend around €9m, with €12m their maximum offer. Boateng is currently under contract until 2015, meaning that City are in good negotiating position.
