what is "Lebanese" ?
"Lebanese" is a mixture of different ethnics and communities...
We are definitely not Arabs, we are definitely not pure Phoenicians, not Romans, not Europeans... We are a mixture of all of these.

- our Lebanese accent has a lot of common words with the old Phoenician language, and a lot of common words with the Arabic language, and a lot of common words with the Turkish language, this doesn't mean that we are related to one or another (if language is the criterion)
- our Lebanese community is formed from different religions that exists in all the world (this doesn't mean that we are related to one of these countries in the world, if religion was the criterion)

The Lebanese people is one, no one can choose his own identity and say for example: "I am Arab, if you don't like it you can choose being phoenician" LOL, it's not a matter of choice.
why doesn't everyone of those who are fighting over this subject take a DNA test and search for his/her real background ??
i am pretty sure that a lot in here defending Arabs and considering themselves pure Arabs will find out that they are not related to Arabs in any single thing... same thing for those who are considering themselves pure Phoenicians.

This "country" will never turn to be a Real Country as long as its people is searching for some ethnicity or religion and relating himself to it while he must be proud being only LEBANESE !!!

Most studies show that around 2% of the Lebanese (also Palestinian and Syrian) have either from European or Arab genes, there rest, 98% are trace back to the Phoenician.

Dear Adam, talking about genetics, wiki can't be cited as reference. Even the references cited by wiki (concerning this subject) are pathetic and have nothing to do with science.

Now, if we want to know from where this myth (about genetics and lebanese people) came from, we should make a search in specialised sites like pubmed. indeed, i have found only ONE article written by a phoenician scientist from AUB.(if any phoenician reader has another paper, plz post it, and post it NOW)
the most amazing thing in this article is how the authors present their data, to conclude that lebanese muslims (i don't like this language) come from the arabian peninsula, and christians do not.

and here is my response:
1- authors only report the maronites, druze, sunnis, and shia. Where are the others?
2-The arab genes are found more commonly in the muslims than the maronites (25% vs 15%), meaning 75% of the muslims and 85% of the maronites did NOT have those genes ,and the Western european genes were found in ONLY 16% of the maronites vs 10% in the muslims. So 84% of the maronites did NOT come from Western Europe (have they checked Syrian genes) and 90% of the muslims did not either.
3-What does this all mean: unlike the study conclusion, they should have concentrated on what makes the Lebanese ALIKE and not what makes them different from each others. His conclusion that different religious groups have been living in enclaves with "no" mixing for over 1300 yrs is not proven by his findings.

I am really excited to know what other ethnic group impresses you? Blacks, the laziest stupidest people on the planet? Whites who are just food/sex machines stripped of their humanity? Yellow people? Mexicans?


If you think arabs really suck that much, you should have done your homework and compared them to other ethnic groups...I assure you that once you do, you will have a very very different perspective.
